Unlike small high-speed fans that create stressful drafts and kick up dust, the HVLS rotor moves large volumes of air at low peripheral speed, which strips away the still, hot boundary layer around animals and reduces heat stress without startling the herd or flock. The same slow airflow breaks up hot and cold stratification inside barns, so stock in the middle and at the ends of the building share the same temperature instead of suffering under a hot roof. Because the drive is gearless and runs on heavy-duty silent bearings, the fan operates quietly enough not to agitate nervous animals during long summer shifts.
